As you will have seen on Instagram and the pages of lifestyle magazines celebrities aren't always known for their relatable or even good taste in home design but every now and again we are happy to be surprised by some stylish celebrity homes. To help you achieve this celebrity style we scoured through our favorite Architectural Digest celebrity home tours and compiled a list of trends and through-lines that gave these homes their Pzazz.
Fun & Quirky Wallpaper
Throughout these celebrity home tours, almost all feature unique and colourful wallpapers. Often in powder rooms, kids rooms, or if you're David Harbor and Lily Allen then everywhere. While some appeal to my taste more than others I adore the theme. Choosing something bold, joyful and unique. Each celeb gladly talks about what drew them to the print and you can see that it is something that reflects their personal style and brings them joy. And I love how accessible this is to anyone especially when you scale it down to a feature wall or copy Jesse Tyler Fergusson's games room and opt for a feature ceiling. There is a huge range available online via sites such as Hovia and Spoonflower - enjoy browsing and find something that speaks to you!
Bringing the Outdoors In with Plants & Nature
Biophilia seems to be the trend that never dies; I wish I could say the same for my houseplants. But these celebs embrace the green thumb and almost all of our favourite celebrity homes prominently feature houseplants, interior trees and generous floral arrangements. And they really do lift the space! Our prize for the most relatable plant owner is Kacey Musgraves with her plant wall, love this as the perfect accessory to a sun-soaked bright, and light kitchen.
Colourful Sofas
One trend that was across almost all the home tours was pops of colour in upholstered sofas and chairs. This is something that I think us Kiwi's could really take note on - sofas don't have to be drab grey, brown or black. And that doesn't mean we have to go all the way to cream and white which screams 'nobody actually live here'. And you don't necessarily even have to buy a whole new sofa or chair - find your local re upholsterer and choose any fabric of your choice.
Large Scale Art
Art and fame do sometimes seem to go hand in hand and is perhaps one of the most admirable way the ultra rich invest their wealth. One theme of the art throughout celebrity homes we noticed was not just the rarity or quantity but the scale. Large art pieces that draw attention and make a splash, while this is easier in their typically larger homes I think this trend is still accessible with larger format prints innovative forms of art.
And even bigger bathrooms
Typically in Kiwi homes bathrooms are the smallest rooms in the house - celebs turn this on its head with bathrooms and ensuites bigger than some of our master bedrooms. We love this luxurious feel and the ability to incorporate living elements into the bathroom so that it's not just a room of practicality but also a place to relax and rejuvenate. If you have this space, a large bathroom or ensuite is a real statement that will elevate your everyday lifestyle and set your home apart.
